Trying Differently Rather Than Harder - 3 Day Training December 4,5,6. Fetal Alcohol and other neurobehavioral conditions (FA/NB) Understanding and application of a brain-based approach
This training provides and builds on information about FA/NB, the effects of other drugs on fetal development and the long-term effects of such exposure on children, adolescents and adults. In addition, the range, degree, and variability of effects of prenatal alcohol exposure is explored. A conceptual foundation is provided to support development of effective strategies.
The workshop is about helping people shift how we, in society, perceive, react to, and address behaviours – shifting from focusing on the behaviours to taking a step back, and understanding the source of the behaviours (a brain that works differently), and from there, putting in place the supports to prevent the behaviours. As part of the training, we provide very concrete tools to explore cognitive functioning of individuals and develop person-specific accommodations.
Concrete, practical examples of effective strategies and improved outcomes for people with FA/NB are central to this training.
Participants will recieve Diane Melbin's Try Differently Rather Than Harder book with registration.
Coffee/Tea and light snacks are provided, although lunch is NOT included. Culture Cafe and Whole Wheat and Honey are close options for your lunches if you choose.
